Stories about my Dad

Posted Friday, May 26, 2006 by Charlie Trimm

My father passed away two years ago yesterday, and as my family gathered last night and told stories about him, I thought I would pass along some of the funny stories, since they are remotely connected to the Bible and religion. My father was a godly man and I miss him very much. Here are some good memories.

Just after Mariah and I had gotten married, we went to my parent's house for dinner. I walked in first, and my Dad walked over to me, hugged me, and said "My son, my son! Bring out the fatted calf!" Then Mariah walked in the door behind me, not having heard what he had just said, and my dad walks over to her and hugs her and says "The fatted calf!"

My dad liked to say "amen!" during the sermon. Usually it was at an expected place, but there were times when he caught the preacher and everyone else off guard. One time the pastor was talking about divorce and remarriage, and made a comment something along the lines of "Do you ever feel like you have a terrible spouse and you just want to divorce the scum?" Then my dad says "Amen!" My mom, sitting next to him, turns beet red and hits him quite hard in the arm. Just after the service ended, my dad stood up and said "I love my wife!"
